【摘要】:ThisPartofEN4533examinestheterminationaspectsoffibreopticdesignforavionicinstallations.Byterminationismeantthemechanismusedtointerfacefromonecomponent(usuallyafibre)toanother.Thisisnormallyperformedbyaconnector,whichalignsthefibrewithanothercomponent(usuallyanotherconnector)toasufficientaccuracytoallowcontinuedtransmissionofanopticalsignalthroughouttheoperationalenvelope.ThisPartwillexplaintheneedforhighintegrityterminations,provideaninsightintocomponentselectionissuesandsuggestsbestpracticewhenterminatingfibresintoconnectorsforhighintegrityapplications.AdetailedreviewoftheterminationprocesscanbefoundinClause4ofthispartandisorganisedbroadlyinlinewiththesequenceofatypicalterminationprocedure.Thevastnumberofcableconstructionsandconnectorsavailablemakedefiningasingleterminationinstructionthatisapplicabletoallcombinationsalmostimpossible.Becauseoftheproblemsofdefiningagenericterminationinstruction,thishandbookhasconcentratedondefiningbestpracticeforcurrenttonearfutureapplicationsoffibreopticsonaircraft.Thishaslimitedthestudieswithinthisparttocurrentlyavailable‘avionic’silicafibrecablesandadhesivefilledbutt-coupledtypeconnectors.Manyoftheprinciplesdescribedhoweverwouldstillbeapplicableforotherterminationtechniques.Othertypesofterminationareconsideredfurtherintherepairpartofthishandbook.Inordertoimplementafibreopticbasedsystemonanaircraftitisvitaltoensurethattheconstituentelementsofthesystemwillcontinuetooperate,tospecification,overthelifeofthesystem.Animportantaspectofthisrequirementistheneedforreliableinterconnectioncomponents.Thisisoftenexpressedastheneedforreliableconnectors,butinrealityitistheneedforareliablecabletoconnectorterminationprocess.Theessenceofthisrequirementistheneedtoassurereliablelighttransmissionthrougheachopticalconnectorthroughouttheoperationalenvelope.Thisneedstobeachievedthrougharobustprocessthatenablesahighlevelofopticalperformanceoverthelifetimeoftheterminations.Manyfactorscancontributetoanopticalconnector’sin-serviceperformance,suchasbasicconnectordesign,choiceofopticalfibre,cable,operatingandmaintenanceenvironmentetc.However,oneofthemainfactorsgoverningin-serviceconnectorperformanceisthequalityofthecabletoconnectortermination.
